Palestine / Israel Apartheid News: 6/27/11: ‘Gaza, We Are Coming’: Despite pressure and threats of violence, flotilla will sail

The Free Gaza Movement issued the following statement this morning:

On Saturday, 25 June, the French boat, Dignity / Karama, left the port of l’ile Rousse in Corsica, France, to meet up with at least nine other vessels sailing to Gaza to challenge Israel’s illegal blockade. Israel’s best efforts to stop our boats at port, including pressure on governments, threats against insurance and communications companies, intimidation of human rights defenders, frivolous lawsuits and other underhanded tactics, have thus far failed. The Freedom Flotilla has set sail.

In the coming days the rest of the vessels in the flotilla, two cargo ships and seven other passenger boats, will leave from various ports to a meeting point in international waters from which the boats will sail all together towards Gaza. We will carry nearly three thousand tons of aid and hundreds of civilians from dozens of countries, including members of parliament, politicians, writers, artists, journalists and sports figures, as well as representatives of indigenous peoples and various faith groups.

Unfortunately some of our vessels are facing delays admittedly initiated by bogus complaints from the Israel Law Center, attempted sabotage of some boats, as well as administrative obstacles created by the Greek government in response to Israeli pressure. We call upon the Greek government not to become complicit in Israel’s illegal actions by succumbing to this pressure, and to join France in standing unopposed to the flotilla.

There is no question that Israel’s near hermetic closure of the Gaza Strip is illegal; this has been affirmed again and again by numerous international human rights bodies including the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross. And, when prompted by the flotilla effort, international consensus has been unequivocal in the demand for the Israeli siege to end. There is no question that Israel’s closure policy has had a devastating effect on the occupied people of Gaza. This has also been well documented. The only question is why does the international community of states allow Israel to keep violating the law and rights of the Palestinian people with impunity?

Recent steps taken by Israel to address the concerns raised in the public eye by the Freedom Flotilla II – Stay Human initiative, including last week’s announcement of authorization for construction materials for 1,200 homes and 18 schools in Gaza, prove that flotillas work. However, this is not enough, as our effort is not simply about increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza. It is about freedom for Palestinians in Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories. Calls by some world leaders for flotilla organizers to use “established channels” to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza show a fundamental disregard for Palestinian human rights. The Palestinian people do not want handouts from the international community; rather they demand liberation – a call we must all support.

Therefore, despite intimidation, pressure, and threats of violence from the Israeli government, which is not ashamed to boast that it will use snipers and attack dogs against unarmed civilians, we will sail. We are part of a growing movement, led by Palestinian civil society campaigning for their freedom, that Israel’s strong-arm tactics cannot stop. We call on our governments to do their utmost to protect their citizens as we take to the sea, without weapons, protection or threat of force, in defense of freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. Gaza, we are coming.

Gaza/Israel

by Medea Benjamin

Today we had a long meeting about whether or not we should do some visible protests against the Greek government for holding up our ship and if so, where we should do the actions. We even had a scouting team go out, which brought back all kinds of ideas. My favorite was the “choo-choo trail option” of renting a tourist trolley, and jazzing it up with our banners, lifejackets and other paraphernalia from the boat. But in the end, the folks in the international flotilla—especially the Greeks—recommended that we lay low for a few days to see if the complaint against our boat is lifted quickly.

We had been very eager to meet some of the passengers of the other boats, and last night was our opportunity. We had a fabulous dinner with passengers and organizers from Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Austria, France and Belgium. It was amazing how many of the groups had elected officials who were going on their boats. I met Parliamentarians from the European Union, as well as from individual countries such as Norway, Sweden and Spain. I felt a great sense of sadness that it would be so impossible to get a member of our Congress to join us. Our representatives are so afraid to speak out for justice on this issue. After months of work, we were only able to get six members of Congress (out of 535 reps) to sign onto a simple letter to President Obama asking our government to help ensure our safety.

One question I had been asking myself is why there are so few Palestinians on any of these boats. I got the answer after talking to a Palestinian living in Italy who had helped organize the flotilla but was not going. He said they might not have passports that allow them to travel easily; they might have family in Palestine and want to be able to go back into Israel in order to visit them (all passengers on the last flotilla have been banned from Israel for 10 years); or, they may fear the treatment inside Israeli jails. While we, foreigners, will probably be held in jail for a few days before being deported, Palestinians are routinely held for long periods of time. This man told me that his brother had visited him in Italy and upon his return to Palestine, the Israelis picked him up at the airport and held him, without charge, for 2 ½ years!

Later that evening a group of US passengers went out to the big square where the Greeks have been protesting against economic austerity measures for 31 days. It is their Tahrir Square. It’s amazing how the Egyptian protests have rocked the world. Greek people in the square are so sympathetic to the Palestinians and the flotilla. They had members of our delegation speak to the whole assembly, receiving tremendous support. On Tuesday and Wednesday there will be a general strike, and we will be out there to support the world and get support in return for our struggle with the Greek government to let our boats set sail.

We had a great medical training by Kathy Sheets, who is both a nurse and a passenger and was on the last flotilla to Gaza. We learned all kinds of useful things, like the difference between earplugs for sleeping and earplugs for protection from percussion grenades. We decided to all take goggles to protect our eyes from tear gas, pepper spray, paint balls and whatever else they might throw our way.

We learned how to do triage—how to evaluate the wounded according to 4 categories: minor, delay, immediate and deceased. We practiced how to move a wounded person, including how to secure their head, how to deal with people who are in shock. Every time we do this kind of exercise, it really hits home the risk we are taking.

That was reinforced by Janet, one of the women who was on one of the smaller boats last year. She told us about the tear gas, sound bombs and paint pellets. Her group tried to protect the captain by linking arms, but the soldiers were too forceful. They just beat the passengers up, and they beat the captain so badly he had to be evacuated to Greece. Kathy Sheets described how—on her boat–the Israelis took two women, threw them on the ground and pushed their faces into the blown-out glass on the deck. “It’s unbelievable how inhumane and violent they are,” Kathy said.

U.S., Israel escalate threats against flotilla, including U.S. citizens

AP
This May 31, 2010 photo shows the Mavi Marmara ship, the lead boat of a flotilla headed to the Gaza Strip, which was stormed by Israeli naval commandos in a predawn confrontation last year.

(updated below)

A co-founder of the right-wing blog RedState (and former Bush speechwriter) created a mini-controversy over the weekend when he issued a sociopathic endorsement of Israel’s possible shooting of his fellow unarmed citizens on a flotilla currently sailing to Gaza; that flotilla is trying to deliver humanitarian supplies to Gazans and protest the ongoing Israeli blockade:

When asked by Israeli-American journalist Joseph Dana — who is covering the flotilla for The Nation — whether that sentiment applies to the shooting of journalists on board the ships, this was the reply:

Condemnation of this outburst was pervasive but also easy: cheering for a foreign army to shoot unarmed protesters — one’s fellow citizens — is self-evidently warped; that this came from a right-wing war-cheerleader-from-a-safe-distance with endless pretenses to uber-patriotism just added a layer of irony (Dear Foreign Nation: go ahead and shoot and kill Americans).

But over the weekend, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also gave her views on the flotilla, and while her rhetoric was somewhat more restrained than that quoted above, she also seemed to endorse possible violence by this foreign nation against her own country’s peacefully protesting citizens:

Well, we do not believe that the flotilla is a necessary or useful effort to try to assist the people of Gaza. Just this week, the Israeli Government approved a significant commitment to housing in Gaza. There will be construction materials entering Gaza and we think that it’s not helpful for there to be flotillas that try to provoke actions by entering into Israeli waters and creating a situation in which the Israelis have the right to defend themselves.

Though Clinton’s language was draped with the subtleties of diplomatese, there is little doubt that she, too, is justifying a potential attack by a foreign government on unarmed American protesters (ironically, Clinton’s remarks came at the same Press Conference where she impugned the patriotism of others — namely, critics of the Libya War — by branding them as “on Gadaffi’s side”).

The perception that Clinton endorsed possible Israeli violence against Americans is bolstered by the conduct of the U.S. Government in the wake of Israel’s attack on the prior Gaza flotilla, when Israel killed 9 people, including the unarmed 19-year-old American citizen (and Turkish citizen) Furkan Dogan. While most governments instinctively condemn the killing of their own unarmed citizens by foreign armies — Turkey was furious at Israel for months and world leaders in virtual consensus harshly condemned the Israeli aggression — the Obama administration almost immediately took Israel’s side, culminating with Joe Biden’s disgusting rhetorical question, posed before the American teenager was even buried: “what’s the big deal here”?

Worse, the Clinton State Department is now explicitly threatening Americans who participate in the flotilla with criminal prosecution (h/t Jason Ditz):

The United States on Friday warned activists against plans to send a new aid flotilla to challenge Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip, saying it would be irresponsible and dangerous. . . . “We underscore that delivering or attempting or conspiring to deliver material support or other resources to or for the benefit of a designated foreign terrorist organization, such as Hamas, could violate U.S. civil and criminal statutes and could lead to fines and incarceration,” [State Department Spokesperson Victoria] Nuland said.

In contrast to the Israel-must-always-be-defended mindset of U.S. political officials, compare how other governments view the possible shooting of their citizens by a foreign country:

As the second “Gaza Freedom Flotilla” gets ready to sail this week, Irish Foreign Minister Eamon Gilmore urged Israel to avoid any repeat of last year’s actions against the convoy, Irish media reported Sunday.

“Israel must exercise all possible restraint and avoid any use of military force if attempting to uphold their naval blockade,” Gilmore, who also holds the post of trade minister, said after meeting with Israeli Ambassador to Dublin Boaz Moda.

“In particular, I would expect that any interception of ships is conducted in a peaceful manner and does not endanger the safety of our citizens or other participants,” he added, reiterating the country’s position that the Gaza blockade was “unjust and counterproductive'” and that the violence that marked last year’s flotilla venture was “completely unacceptable and unjustified.”

That type of uncontroversial statement — you shouldn’t shoot our unarmed citizens — is inconceivable when it comes to the U.S. and Israel. So devoted is the U.S. Government to defending the actions of Israel’s that it will even preemptively justify violent attacks on its own citizens, threaten Americans protesting Israel’s policies with prosecution for aiding Terrorism, and isolate itself from the world to defend them.

Meanwhile, like the U.S., Israel is issuing its own menacing threats. Yesterday, Israel announced that any journalists who are on the flotilla merely to cover it will be subject to a 10-year-ban from the country and the confiscation of their equipment. As noted this morning by the New York Times — one of whose reporters intends (or at least intended) to be on the flotilla — this is but the latest Israeli attack on press freedoms as a means of suppressing reports and examination of their conduct:

Two and a half years ago, when Israel invaded Gaza to stop Hamas from shooting rockets at Israeli communities — about 8,000 had been fired — the Israeli military barred reporters from entering Gaza to report on the war.

There was no public outcry, but the Foreign Press Association took the case to the Israeli Supreme Court, which ruled that the army had acted improperly. It ordered the army to admit a small groups of reporters. Commanders kept saying that it was unsafe, and it was not until the last day of the war that the foreign journalists were allowed to enter.

Israel did the same thing in the wake of the last flotilla attack, confiscating all video and other evidence from passengers and detaining on-board journalists, all to prevent the world from learning what it really did, ensuring that the heavily edited propaganda video the IDF produced and released to the world could not be critically examined. It’s strange that a country which incessantly claims that it acted properly is so fixated on suppressing journalistic freedoms and reports about what it did. And one thing is certain: if Israel does make good on its threats to violently attack protesting passengers and/or punish journalists for covering the event, the U.S. — even as it lectures the world on the evils of identical behavior — will have nothing but praise to offer.

UPDATE: Israel now appears to be backing away from its threat to impose a 10-year ban on journalists, instead announcing it will “find a formula” to determine the proper sanction (h/t sysprog). What’s most remarkable about all of this is that this flotilla (like the last one) has no intention of entering Israeli waters, nor is it delivering anything other than basic humanitarian supplies. It is, manifestly, a theatrical, non-threatening form of peaceful protest against the blockade. Yet Israeli and U.S. officials continue to bloviate about “self-defense,” “entering into Israeli waters,” and criminally aiding Hamas; all of that is nothing more than a by-product of the notion that they own the world, and anyone who fails to honor that claim is either a Terrorist-sympathizer or even a Terrorist.

Us_gaza_flotilla_buttonA group of U.S. citizens is rejecting the Obama administration’s attempt to thwart their aid mission to the Gaza Strip, which threatens to leave them stranded in Greece. They are set to sail from a Greek port on a U.S.-flagged ship called “The Audacity of Hope,” part of an international humanitarian flotilla carrying aid for Gaza’s 1.5 million Palestinian residents. Flotilla members are taking part despite Israeli threats to intercept their ships. Nine people were killed in an Israeli attack on the first aid flotilla just over a year ago. The Audacity of Hope passengers have called for the U.S. government’s help in ensuring their safe passage. But instead, the Obama administration has told them not to set sail and even warned them they could face punishment back home. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton suggested Israel would have the right to use force to prevent the ships’ passage. The State Department called the flotilla “irresponsible and provocative” and warned that U.S. delegates could face “fines and incarceration.” We play an excerpt from a press conference when State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland is repeatedly questioned about the Obama administration’s threat, but refuses to answer whether the U.S. considers the Israeli blockade of Gaza to be legal. [includes rush transcript]

This just in from Haaretz journalist Amira Hass: organizers for the Swedish-Greek–Norwegian boat to Gaza are reporting that their ship has been sabotaged.

One of the ships due to participate in the Gaza flotilla was deliberately tampered with while it was docked in Greece’s Piraeus port, organizers of the Gaza flotilla told Haaretz on Monday.

The ship, due to carry Greek, Norwegian, and Swedish passengers to Gaza, was found to have been tampered with when its propeller shaft was found broken, the ship’s spokesman, Israeli activist Dror Feiler told Haaretz.

A scuba diver who examines the ship on a daily basis discovered Monday that the ship’s propeller shaft, which connects the transmission inside the vessel directly to the propeller, was cut off.

According to Feiler, there is no doubt that the action was a deliberate attempt at sabotage, which he believed also violated Greece’s sovereignty.

The propeller shaft can be fixed, but it’s not clear how quickly given the general strike planned for Tuesday and Wednesday in Greece.  Which means: more intrigue — and more delay.

Here’s a quick Google translation of the statement issued by representatives of the damaged ship:

At 17:30 o’clock (Swedish time) on Monday discovered the Ship to Gaza’s passenger boat “Juliano” victim of sabotage in the port of Piraeus. Hostile divers have destroyed prop house and cut the propeller shaft. No man was injured in the attack.

In Gaza has documented the sabotage of their own camera equipped divers. According to a first inspection on site yesterday to repair the damage before the planned departure at the end of this week.

Passenger boat “Juliano” (named after Juliano More Khamis, the murdered actor and director at Freedom Theatre in Jenin) is owned jointly by the Ship to Gaza organizations in Sweden, Norway and Greece.

In a first comment says Ship to Gaza spokesperson Mattias Gardell:

– It’s one thing to a foreign power presses the Greek government to delay our voyage with red tape. It is quite another thing to enemy agents operating on Greek territory. It is high time for the international community to put their foot down and say: Enough!

Israel’s Anti-Flotilla Jihad: Haaretz Spews IDF Lies

gaza flotilla passengersIDF claims this man and his Hamas ‘friends’ are aboard Gaza flotilla

Barak Ravid, ever the trusty stenographer for the IDF and other government sources, continues his tradition of poodle journalism by reporting today’s lies the IDF is spewing about the Gaza flotilla.  Here’s the latest:

Senior officials in Jerusalem said Monday that Israel has received information that organizers of the Gaza flotilla may be bringing chemical substances on the ships to use against Israeli soldiers to prevent them from boarding the ships.

The senior officials also said that Israel had been notified that several extremists among the Gaza flotilla participants had recently claimed that they intend on “shedding the blood of IDF soldiers.”

So if you trace that back, unknown sources reported to anonymous “senior officials” that Flotilla activists were bringing a vague item “chemical substances” on board the ships.  Given his history and recent comments the “senior official” is likely Danny Ayalon.  In an earlier post I wrote, I quoted him saying that he was leading the equivalent of a jihad against the Flotilla and that he would delegitimize it by all means necessary.  What’s surprising is that Ayalon is usually so ready to inveigh against all manner of Palestinian in his own name–why couldn’t he attach his own name to these charges?

The “chemical substances” could mean sunblock, prescription medicine or any number of items that contain chemicals in them.  As for whether the substances are intended for use against the IDF…gimme a break.  Do you think the boats are going to allow a passenger to bring pepper spray aboard?  Or perhaps the IDF is afraid those aboard the ships may slip a date rape drug to one of the commandos (apparently Yoav Even’s preferred M.O. for raping P.), thus rendering him unconscious??

I’m researching this claim as well, which I’m virtually certain will come up empty once it’s nailed down:

Israeli officials claim that two activists participating in the flotilla have connections to Hamas. They named the first one as Amin Abu Rashad, who they claim is one of the head Dutch organizers for the Gaza flotilla and had served in the past as the head of the Hamas’ Charitable Foundation in Holland. The foundation closed down following Dutch authorities’ probe into its involvement in funding terror activities.

The second activist is Mohammed Ahmed Hanon, which Israel claims is a Hamas activist who stands at the head of the ABSPP, which is involved in transferring funds to terrorists.

All this sounds suspiciously like material being funneled to the Israeli government by those crackerjack anti-Flotilla hasbarists of Shurat HaDin & elsewhere mobilized for just this eventuality.  Which means the government is using sources whose information they don’t vet for accuracy.  They might as well employ a thriller novelist to write the press releases for them, as what they’re disseminating is about that close to fiction (and bad fiction at that).

I seriously doubt Hamas had any charity in Holland.  What they may mean is that Holland closed down an Islamic charity there, although I wouldn’t even trust that part of the account to be accurate.

As for ABSPP, and to whom it transfers funds, by the standards of the IDF and the hasbarasphere, anyone who raises any funds from the world Muslim community is likely dallying with terrorists.  I’m afraid that I’ll have to wait to learn who actually this group funds before I decide that it’s a terror front as the MFA would have you believe.

Given the history of the IDF and MFA and the lies they spin so readily, I wouldn’t trust this story as far as I could throw it.  I’ll report on further research.

Years ago, the Israel Broadcasting Authority, the nation’s public television provider, beamed such a channel throughout the Mideast, but over the years the channel lost funding and focus, Edelstein said. Unfortunately, he added, Israel lost interest in the channel just as satellite television exploded in the Arab world.   Now the IBA is developing a plan to spend more than $30 million to double its Arabic-language programming to eight hours a day and next year launch a new satellite that can beam its signals to the entire region, Gendelman said.  “We are certain it will have a huge viewership in the Arab world,” he said. “Israel is an obsession. Israel anti-rape activists report the sad, frustrating, angering news that Yoav Even, accused rapist of P., has been reinstated as health reporter for Channel 2.  It’s a huge shondeh.  Can you imagine the local health reporter of your TV station being charged with rape and put back on the air as if nothing had happened?  It’s the triumph of impunity, the triumph of sexual violence.  The trampling of the body and soul of Israeli women by accused rapists and their judicial and prosecutorial accomplices.  And no Israeli still can say publicly what crime he was accused of because of an apparently permanent gag order.  One wonders whether perhaps it might be lifted sometime after his demise.

For those who can bear to look at him, here’s his first reporting for Channel 2 since he sodomized poor P. and left her bleeding.  It would’ve been much more appropriate, I think, to have his first story deal with the wholesale importation and use of date rape drugs in Israel, since he appears to be quite familiar with the subject.

He is not the only one of course.  Haaretz and Yediot employ the Israeli poet, political commentator and accused serial rapist Yitzhak Laor, as if he’d done nothing untoward either.  Moshe Katsav was only convicted because feminists raised holy hell and because the idiot refused a plea bargain that offered him a sweetheart deal.

If you are Israeli, please go to the Channel 2 website and write to the editor and the ombundsman protesting this atrocity.

Israel plans to forcibly transfer 40,000 Bedouin citizens

from World War 4 Report blogs by WW4 Report

A new Israeli proposal that would forcibly transfer more than 40,000 Bedouin citizens into government-planned townships in the Negev (Naqab) desert has raised the ire of Bedouin communities and their supporters, who say the plan is both discriminatory and ignores the Bedouins’ historic connection to the land, Electronic Intifada reports. Dr. Awad Abu Freih, the spokesperson of al-Araqib, one of approximately 45 so-called unrecognized villages in the Negev, told Electronic Intifada: “Now we are very angry and we reject this plan. We will not accept it. We are working all the time to explain to our communities that this plan is very dangerous, it’s not good for us and not good for the Jews, not good for the state, not good for anybody.”

Beinin Successfully Defends Libel Charge

from Tikun Olam-תקון עולם: Make the World a Better Place by Richard Silverstein

Stanford Professor Joel Beinin just won a court victory against Los Angeles pro-Israel activist Rachel Neuwirth, who’d charged him with libel in a case related to this blog.  Several years ago, Beinin wrote to me that Neuwirth had made a death threat against him, about which he was deposed in a separate case Neuwirth had filed against UCLA Hillel director Rabbi Chaim Seidler Feller.  I reported that here, and Neuwirth then included Beinin in the libel action she brought against both of us.

Originally, both our cases were joined, but when they came to trial a few months ago the cases were divided.  Beinin’s case was heard by a jury which found him not guilty of libel.  Mazel tov, Joel.  My case still awaits a decision from the judge who heard it.

‘This is not my Jerusalem’

by ANNIE on JUNE 27, 2011

HagitBorerHagit Borer (right) moved from Israel to the United States to study in 1977. She became an American citizen in 1992 and is currently a professor of linguistics at USC and a passenger on the Audacity of Hope.  She self-identifies as an Israeli Jewish American. Yesterday the LA times published an Op-Ed by Borer titled “Getting on board with peace in Israel” in which she shares some experiences of her youth growing up in Jerusalem as well on reflecting Israel today.

Here’s a brief segment:

A soldier helped me sneak into the Old City. Snipers were still at large and the city was closed to Israeli civilians. By the Western Wall, a myth to me until then, the Israeli army was already evicting Palestinian residents in the dead of night and demolishing all houses within 1,000 feet. Eventually, the area would turn into the huge open paved space it is today, a place where only last month, on Jerusalem Day, masses of Israeli youths chanted “Muhammad is dead” and “May your villages burn.”

It is a different Jerusalem now. It is not their Jerusalem, for it has been taken from them. Every day the Palestinians of Jerusalem are further strangled by more incursions, by more “housing developments” to cut them off from other Palestinians. In Sheik Jarrah, a neighborhood built by Jordan in the 1950s to house refugees, Palestinian families recently have been evicted from their homes at gunpoint based on court-sanctioned documents purporting to show Jewish land ownership in the area dating back some 100 years. But no Palestinian proof of ownership within West Jerusalem has ever prevailed in Israeli courts. Talbieh, Katamon, Baca, until 1948 affluent Palestinian neighborhoods, are today almost exclusively Jewish, with no legal recourse for the Palestinians who recently raised families and lived their lives there.

In his speech on Jerusalem Day, Yitzhak Pindrus, the deputy mayor of Jerusalem, assured a cheering crowd of the ongoing commitment to expanding the Jewish neighborhood of Shimon Hatzadik, as Sheik Jarrah has been renamed.

This is not my Jerusalem.

ZIONISM = RACISM

Ethan Bronner: he only counts rockets from one side, he only count the dead from one side

from The Angry Arab News Service/وكالة أنباء العربي الغاضب by noreply@blogger.com (As’ad AbuKhalil)

I mean, is there a more crude and vulgar and blatant and racist propagandist than this man:  “Two and a half years ago, when Israel invaded Gaza to stop Hamas from shooting rockets at Israeli communities — about 8,000 had been fired — the Israeli military barred reporters from entering Gaza…”  Do you care to tell us how many rockets and bombs were dropped on Palestinians from Israel in the same period? Or does that not matter because to you those Palestinians are inferior humans?  The racism of Zionists is so unmasked.

Ethan Bronner: as usual, defending Israeli killing of civilians

Netanyahu’s son

from The Angry Arab News Service/وكالة أنباء العربي الغاضب by noreply@blogger.com (As’ad AbuKhalil)

Regarding his established pattern of racism:  “A lawyer for the Netanyahu family, David Shimron, said the comments were those of a “teenager” and were “taken out of context in an attempt to defame the Prime Minister and his family”.”  First, notice that this was not a story in the US press.  Secondly, can you imagine the uproar if this was the son of an Arab leader?  I mean, if an Arab–any Arab–even if three years old mispronounces the word Judaism, there would be accusation of anti-Semitism and congressional hearings about the culture of hate among Arab children.  Thirdly, he is referred to as a teenager:  if he is old enough to serve in the terrorist army and to kill civilian Arab, chances are that the is an adult.

Western racism

from The Angry Arab News Service/وكالة أنباء العربي الغاضب by noreply@blogger.com (As’ad AbuKhalil)

Only racism can explain Western leaders are obsessed with one Israeli occupation terrorist, and not care about the thousands of Palestinian political prisoners. (thanks “Ibn Rushd”)

Great News from Gaza by Ethan Bronner: It is pretty much like Beverly Hills

from The Angry Arab News Service/وكالة أنباء العربي الغاضب by noreply@blogger.com (As’ad AbuKhalil)

“In assessing the condition of the 1.6 million people who live in Gaza, there are issues of where to draw the baseline and — often — what motivates the discussion. It has never been among the world’s poorest places. There is near universal literacy and relatively low infant mortality, and health conditions remain better than across much of the developing world.” (thanks Sarah)
